Frisco

San Francisco feels like a second home for me now. I know my way around the city and if you come ill even be able to give you a small tour of the sites.

This certainly hasn’t been the best start to the northern hemisphere winter by any stretch. Yes, there have been waves at Jaws and the one day at Cortez Bank, but here at Mavericks it has been pretty dismal. I think all together I have surfed there 4 times this year with one day before the new year having some solid ones. Ocean Beach, however, has been really fun and we have been able to surf almost every day.

Winter 2012 / 13

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Its that time of year again, the start of summer here in the Southern Hemisphere. Which means i shall be making my annual migration to the northern Hemisphere for the start of winter on the other side of the world. I am planning to spend a month in Mexico at Peurto then on to California for the big wave season at mavericks after which i gonna be off to Hawaii for the late season there. I have been working with Cape Town Shaper Dutchie this year and am super stoked with the quiver we came up with for this winter. I asked Dutch to write a small piece on each board. If you are interested in getting a high quality long lasting board check out http://www.dutchie.co.za/. And thanks to Caleb Bjergfelt for the epic pics.

100 Hours with Frank and Josh

On around the first of June things began. It was a Thursday and my next leg of the year got on a roll! I (Josh) jumped in the car and got on the road from Durban to Cape Town. On Friday at midday, after  19hrs of driving and 7hrs of sleep in the car, I arrived in Kommetjie at Dave Ritchard’s house.  I had given Dave  only a couple hours notice,  but he graciously opened his doors to my arrival.

Peru 2012

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

There I was minding my own business doing something or other of little importance when i got a email from Peru. The msg was short and too the point ”contest in Peru is on for Tuesday the 14th of August”. I got that mail on Thursday evening which happened to also be a public holiday. So after much debate at the brass bell over a couple of Milk stout quarts with Ross Lindsey, ( who also gave me a Nixon watch right there at the bar thanks bru) Reza and a couple other Kbay locals i decided i had to go.

SA Champs 2012 ( By Daniel Redman )

SA Champs 2012. Cape Town. Cape Town in June. Which means Cape Town in winter. The only people stoked on this year’s location call is the team from the Western Cape. Or do they call themselves Western Province? WP /WC have a home ground advantage, they have zero travel hassles and they know that all the other competing provinces don’t enjoy Cape Town’s kelp invested frozen ocean.

Thank You Hurley

First of all ‘Thank you’ to the team at Hurley and Ninjas for Hire for the new website!  I think it looks amazing and I am really stoked, so thank you all very much.

I have been pretty busy since coming back from the States.  My first trip was with Dan Redman, Michael February, Luke Patterson, Simon Fish and Graeme Brunt. The trip itself was really fun. Everyone got on really well and Luke had me in stitches from day one, he is too funny.  I had never really hung out much with Mikey either, he is a super humble and mellow grom.  He didn’t say much but blew us all out the water on that trip. He got no less than 2 double page spreads from the trip in the latest Zag. I got a pic jumping over a fire which doesn’t say much for my surfing on that particular trip. All in all it was good fun.  The waves where terrible, but it was cool camping in the middle of nowhere for a week or so.
