I woke up super early this morning before anyone else, was hard to sleep hearing the waves and knowing that the comp was gonna be on.
my first heat went really well, i got a couple waves right in the begining and yeah it was a hard heat but thanks to some great advice from miss lane i knew that if i got 2 waves right off the bat and then worked on getting a good 3rd i would make the heat.
my semi started off good, i got one of the bigger waves of the heat but got one of the bigger waves of the heat straight off the bat but was dropped in on and couldnt make the section. i got one of the worst beatings of my life on that wave. there was only 2 skis out there so i took 5 on the head before anyone got me. i was seriously stressing at one point thinking i wouldndt make it!
after that i knew i needed another good one as i was in second but my ben just needed a small score to over take me.
in the end i got 4th in the semi just missing the final by 0.5. Im pretty bummed as the judging was questionalble and they missed 2 of my waves in the semi. But i guess when its your time its your time.
in the final my good friend and big wave legend Peter Mel won his first big wave comp
after almost 2oyears of competition i am so stoked for him as he is such a cool guy and so desreves it!
next comp is Nelscot reef and yeah hoprfully 3rd times the charm. i beat Carlos Burle and the runner up Ben Wilconson in my first heat so i know i can beat the guys its just a matter of putting it all together!
Thanks to everyone for all the support it means so much to me.
Thank you to Red Bull and Tristen for helping me out without them none of this would be possible.
close but no cigar
Aug 10, 2011
I arrived in Peru late last night and was picked up by the contest organizers. Jamie Sterling and I arrived together and after packing our boards on the roof we drove the 45mins or so to Punta Hermosa.
After putting my bags down, I pretty much just passed out I was so tired.
This morning I woke up early and went to look out off the balcony and my first look at Pico Aloto. The place looks so beautiful. We are right on the beach.
Once couple of the boys woke up we went for breakfast in the town. It’s a pretty tiny town with one main road and a couple restaurants I had a tamale and some kind of weird Peruvian sandwich for breakfast. Was good though, after brekkie we went across the road and grabbed some supplies from the local mini market. I got some water and some beers everyone else pretty much did the same.
After breakfast and a little rest Jamie Sterling, Grant Washburn and I decided to go for a paddle to this left across the bay. I feel kind of sick at the moment so abit of a paddle should sort me out.
Amped for tomorrow;-) ill update this blog at the end of the day here.
