People often ask me about what I eat and what kind of training I do. So I am going to do 3 posts describing my ideal day. I will start with the morning and then do a post on afternoons and evenings.
My mornings start at 6:30am when my alarm goes off. I seem to always be on my phone during the day so instead of waking up and immediately checking my phone I try and read a couple of pages of whatever book I am reading. Now I have no proof that has any effect on anything, although it seems like a good way to get your brain working for the morning.
After a couple of pages of reading I get up and make my bed. Now this is only a recent habit I have developed. My mom would be proud after trying for years as a kid to get me to make my bed. I recently listened to a Tim Ferris pod cast about his morning routine and he described the many benefits of making your bed. First of all if you make your bed it is starting your day with something organised so that the rest of your day will also be organised. Also it is the last thing you come home to in the evening and instead of it being a mess you come home to something organised. There are many benefits of making your bed check them out here; goo.gl/YytbFK
Once my bed is made I move on to lemon water. I have been doing this for almost a year now and I can promise you that it has vastly improved my health. If you only have the lemon water in the morning I think it will seriously change your life. As with the bed making there are so many benefits of lemon water.I personally first boil some water. Then I quarter a lemon squeeze that into a cup I, add a dash of turmeric (Which is also incredibly good for you). If I am feeling a little tired I add a tea spoon of raw honey. Once the kettle is boiled I pour the hot water into the cup with all the above-mentioned ingredients. It is really quick to make, tastes good and is incredibly good for you (You can add Ginger, Garlic and even cayenne pepper depending what you like). For me the lemon and turmeric with a touch of honey works the best. After sleeping and fasting for eight hours if the first thing you have in the morning is coffee, which can be very acidic, it can be quite a shock to your system. I have found huge personal benefits having the lemon water first. Check out some of the benefits goo.gl/nf2hcL / goo.gl/WMQcd4
After lemon water and since the kettle is still boiled I make some coffee. At the moment I use an aero press which works really well as its made out of plastic and is really small. You can put it in your carry on bag if you are travelling and all you need is some coffee and hot water to make a world class cuppa. If I’m home I will put my coffee in a Nutri Bullet, add some coconut oil and some grass fed butter and spin up a little bullet proof coffee. Which is also extremely good for your energy and concentration. I don’t have it every day but if I know it’s going to be a long day I make one. Otherwise just a little bit of coconut oil in my coffee works a treat. I am trying to cut out milk, so I am using almond milk that not only tastes amazing but also is a lot better for you. Here is how to make a cup of Bullet Proof Coffee goo.gl/SWZX2q
Next step is meditation, now the benefits of any form of mediation are endless. As do most people, I find it really hard to meditate. I try though to have a regular practice of even just a few minutes a day. What really helps is to download an app like “ Calm” or “ Head space” that have amazing ten minute guided meditations. Head space has a great ten minute, ten day free introduction that is worth trying out. Just try it for ten days. I promise you will thank me; it is truly an incredible practice.
My go to breakfast is hundred percent rye bread toast with either coconut oil or grass fed butter. A whole avocado and two poached eggs. If I can’t poach the eggs I will boil them or just fry two up. Now obviously you could add a million and one things to this but that’s the basic version. Recently I have been adding some Kim chi to keep the good bacteria in my stomach happy. Also if I have some rocket or some kind of greens I will add that. Even just avocado on toasted rye with some grass fed butter, a little salt, pepper and squeeze of lemon. I am getting hungry just thinking about it ;).
So there you have it, my ideal morning routine. Wake up, read a couple of pages, make my bed, lemon water, coffee and ten minutes of meditation followed by breakfast. After eating I have a shower, brush my teeth and then get ready to face the day.
My next post I will talk about my daily routines. If you found this at all interesting or have any questions please just send me a mail I would love to hear from you.
